Department of Anthropology Plans ahead for the Department
Partial modification of the Post Graduate Syllabus
In the 3rd and 4th Semester, specialization in the course of Physical Anthropology and
Social Anthropology will be further modified.
In this regard, several new papers like Molecular Anthropology, Forensic Anthropology,
Anthropology of Sports, Anthropology of Disaster Management, Anthropology of Human
Rights, Anthropology of Globalization, Culture of Peace studies, Digital Anthropology,
Anthropology of Eco-tourism, will be introduced.
The courses will be framed as Skill Enhancement Course (SEC), Value Based Course (VBC),
Community Engagement Course (CEC).
These papers will help the students in wider job prospects.
Collaboration with Different Anthropology Departments of Indian and Foreign Universities
Special focus will be given on academic collaboration with the Anthropology Departments
of different foreign universities, Indian universities and leading research institutions
for collaborative research works as well asto frame up the students, research scholars,
and faculty exchange programme.
Inter disciplinary and Trans Disciplinary researches in collaboration with different
other academic departments within the university and with other universities.
Proposed roadmap of Research, Innovative learning and Community Outreach
Special focus will be given to the digital documentation to know about the livelihood
and culture of the concerned people in a more in depth view. Digital documentation cell
on the tribal cultural practices will be established. A special focus will be given to
develop the ethnographic museum in the department. It will have a rich collection of
tribal material culture particularly in the context of Northeast India.
A special emphasis will be given on Community outreach programme. Through such
programmesocial awareness will be created related to the different policies and
programmes as initiated by Government of India from time to time. Moreover,probable
solutions of different social problems will be tried to find out from the people’s
perspective which may possibly play some role in the new policy framing to the
Government.
The Department will be established as a core centre to document the indigenous knowledge
of health care practices, by documenting the medicinal values of locally available
floral and faunal resources.
Capacity building programme will be initiated among the local ethnic groups, to generate
the eco-friendly, environmentally protected green occupations on the basis of available
ecological resources, indigenous technology and knowledge.
Department will play a crucial role to find out alternative sources to indigenous
medicines and eco-friendly occupational sources to ensure health security and economic
security among the poor and marginal people.
In the field of Physical/Biological Anthropology, serological and molecular level of
researches will be given a special emphasis, particularly on the different indigenous
groups of Northeast India.
Capacity Building of the Students and Research Scholars
Keeping a special focus on the NATIONAL EDUCATIONAL POLICY-2020:
It will be the major focus to frame up the post graduate and PhD course work syllabus in
such a way, so the students can gradually develop their own skill and focus of career
selection ahead.
In this regard IQAC and Career Counselling cell of the Department will be enriched
through the online/ offline seminars and workshops, where the resource persons will be
from different disciplines and working sectors.
It will encourage the students towards a more inter-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary
way of thinking, to apply their academic knowledge and training in the fields of public
service as well as to develop their skills and aptitudes for different applied fields
occupational sectors.
Even it may generate their own entrepreneurial skills to create the local resource based
job sectors, instead of job seekers.
