Department of Mass Communication

The Department of Mass Communication officially came into existence in the year 2007. Initially the Department offered some short term courses in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), New Delhi from its Kohima campus.
From the academic session 2014-2015, the department has been offering one year PG Diploma (two semesters) in Mass Communication at Lumami Campus of the university.

Starting from the academic session 2021-22, the department will offer M.A. degree in Mass Communication.


Course objectives

The course aims to equip its students with the relevant knowledge required in the field of mass communication. The programme also guide its attendants on the skills required to be a professional in Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations, Corporate Communication, News Writing and Editing etc., apart from learning other basic skills in the field of Journalism and Mass Communication.
