Department of Anthropology
Labs, Equipment and Facilities

The department is gradually developing an advanced laboratory related to Human Genetics and Molecular Anthropology in Northeast India. It is mainly focused to study on the different indigenous ethnic groups of Northeast India. Some specifications are given below:

# Name of Equipment Brief function
1 Deep Freezer (-80) Preservation of blood samples and chemical.
2 PCR Machine PCR-machines are used for replication of DNA, detecting DNA sequences, carrying out DNA fingerprinting, forensic analysis, and molecular cloning, diagnosing genetic diseases, and detecting pathogens.
3 Gel Documentation Machine Gel imaging or gel documentation System is a system for recording and measuring labeled protein and nucleic acid in different media.
4 Ice Flaking Machine It works by freezing water inside a metal cylinder and allowing the frozen liquid to flow through the coils.
5 DNA Extraction Equipment A typical DNA extraction kit uses some form of alkaline lysis followed by incubation with a DNA binding matrix, washing, and then elution. An optimized DNA extraction kit for plasmids using a modified alkaline lysis method has a number of advantages including: Rapid purification of high-quality DNA.
6 Laminar flow Laminar air flow unit works by the use of in-flow laminar air drawn through one or more HEPA filters, designed to create a particle-free working environment and provide product protection. Air is taken through a filtration system and then exhausted across the work surface as part of the laminar flows process.
