Drawing from Marxian Political Economy, Dr. Lata provided a thorough analysis of the evolving dynamics between labor, capital, and the state's influence in shaping the capitalist trajectory of Punjab's agricultural sector. Dr. Kumari's presentation delved into the complex relationship between media and women's empowerment, with a particular emphasis on how women are portrayed in advertisements. She provided a comprehensive analysis of the media's role in perpetuating traditional images of women, while also highlighting recent shifts in this paradigm.

19 Department of Sociology organized an online lecture on September 18, 2024. Dr. Roluahpuia, Assistant Professor, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Roorkee delivered an insightful lecture on the complex dynamics of borderland precarity in the context of the Indo-Myanmar borderlands, shedding light on the experiences of violence that communities in this region have endured. Central to Dr. Roluahpuia's discussion were three key aspects of precarity: the precarity of belonging, the precarity of places, and the precarity of living. These interconnected dimensions illustrate the pervasive nature of violence, uncertainty and instability that characterize lives in the borderlands. One of the most compelling arguments presented in the lecture was the emphasis on understanding violence not as isolated incidents, but as an ongoing process. 18.09.2024 Department of Sociology National
20 The Department of Sociology at Nagaland University, hosted a lecture as part of their Sociology Lecture Series on October 4, 2024 at 1pm via Google meet. The event featured Professor Anjan Chakrabarti, Director of UGC Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre, North Bengal University, who delivered an insightful presentation titled "Silk Route to Look East/Act East: North East India in Perspective".
Professor Chakrabarti offered a comprehensive analysis of Northeast India's historical trajectory. His lecture expertly traced the region's development through three distinct periods: precolonial, colonial, and postcolonial. A key focus of his presentation was challenging the prevalent notion of the Northeast's isolation, arguing instead that the region maintained strong historical connections until the British colonial administration's territorial reorganization disrupted established trade routes and developmental pathways. Similarly the conflict and security interests have further hampered the growth of economic opportunities in the region. His analysis provided valuable insights into how these geopolitical changes shaped the region's development trajectory and current circumstances.

21 Sociology Lecture Series was hosted by the Department of Sociology at NU Lumami. The speakers: Dr. T Longkoi from Central University of Haryana and Dr. Sunil Babu from Delhi School of Economics delivered thought-provoking presentations on "Public Sphere and Deliberations for Frontier Nagaland: Reflections on Recognition and Identity." Dr. Longkoi shed light on regional inequalities in Nagaland and the significance of Eastern Nagaland communities' decision to abstain from the 2022 Hornbill Festival. She also talked in detail about the historical context of the demands of tribes of Eastern Nagalend for a distinct autonomous district area or council that would allow these groups to participate in the modern economic development processes.
